TPG Spotlight: Meet Anita Patel

I feel so well supported by the team. I am challenged yet supported to grow… We have such a good time here, it’s like a work family. Its nice to have that.

What do you wish you knew before getting into consulting?

I came from the healthcare industry. I didn’t realize how how valuable my prior industry experience was to building my skills for this role. Before starting I was anxious about coming from an in-house strategy role to process improvement consulting so being able to transfer my skills was really important

What made you make the jump from healthcare to consulting?

I recognized that I really like process improvement, so I went and wrote my Lean Six Sigma exam. I had always been interested in consulting, but I just knew that for me to be a better consultant, I needed industry experience. I was deliberate in staying in a strategy-type role so that I could apply that to consulting in the future. After the Lean Six Sigma exam, it was time to take that leap!

What are some key things you have learned in this role and in this industry?

I think the main thing I have learned is that many industries face the same problems. From a technical standpoint they are different, but a lot of the challenges we assess, we see them in every industry. Being able to take the knowledge from one project and transfer it to the next client is valuable.

What has been some of your favourite project experience so far?

I gravitate towards projects that involve strategy deployment, performance management and organizational design. I enjoy working with companies to shape the future of their organizations as they grow by helping them set goals, define areas of measurement, and create lasting improvements. I like being able to make a large impact that is cross-functional and breaks down silos. Tying it all together for them is amazing!

What has been your favourite part of working with TPG?

I love the people! I feel so well supported by the team. I am challenged yet supported to grow.  That largely speaks to David, who has been a valuable mentor for me. We have such a good time here, it’s like a work family. Its nice to have that.
